Stocking Up Your New Fridge Freezer

Monday August 16, 2010

American fridge freezers are hugely popular for one very big reason – they give you a lot of storage space for all your frozen and cold food. This is ideal if you have a big family or you are simply a food lover who wants to have all your main cooking ingredients and items close at hand at all times.

When you receive your new fridge freezer and you have got it into position, you first of all have to leave it plugged in so it has a chance to reach the right temperature. Once this is done you can begin to put things in it – and this is the most exciting bit of all for many people!

It also gives you the opportunity to start afresh. It could well be that you were using a smaller fridge freezer before you took delivery of your new US style one, which means you now have a lot more space to get used to. There could be things you can now find room for in the fridge that you couldn’t squeeze into your old one.

The best way to begin is with the obvious things. For instance you’ll probably have an egg tray you can use. Pop your eggs in this and you’ve done the first bit. Similarly you can put your milk in the door if there is a space for it there. Some fridges also have specific bottle racks for bottles of beer and even two litre soda bottles. Fill these up next so you can get an idea of how much space you still have left.

It is then up to you to think about where you would like other things to go. You should try and have one shelf for raw meat and another one for cooked items such as pre-packed hams and so on. Make sure the raw meat shelf is below the cooked one. If anything drips out from the raw meat it won’t go onto the cooked meat and spoil it.

You may also want to buy some new containers for this very purpose, to ensure that everything is kept completely separate. This makes life easier for you when you start organising your new fridge freezer.

The same thing applies to filling up your freezer as well of course. You will have plenty of room to keep all the fish together, all the meat together and all the vegetables together too. What could be better than that?
